The San Francisco Bay Area is home to both one of the nation’s most creative Jewish communities and one of its most dynamic writing communities.
j Weekly is proud to highlight the talented Jewish writers of Northern California in our monthly J Lit section.
We feature reviews of new books by Jewish authors, along with high-quality original works of poetry and fiction on our “First Edition” page.
Are you a Northern California Jewish writer with work you’d like to share with our 35,000 readers?
Poetry: Submissions must be 380 words or less. Submit to Poetry Editor Joan Gelfand at email@example.com.
Fiction: Submissions may be a complete short story or an excerpt from a novel that works as a stand-alone piece. We can run a short 800-word selection in our print edition and a longer version of up to 2500-3000 words in our web edition. Submit to Fiction Editor Ilana DeBare at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Work with some kind of Jewish content is preferred but not mandatory. Submissions may be unpublished or recently published elsewhere. We will try to respond within 6-8 weeks, if not sooner. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please let us know if the work has been accepted elsewhere. Contributors will receive copies of the edition that contains their work.
Read the latest issue of the j, with all the latest news about Northern California’s Jewish communities! If you’re a California resident, we’d be delighted to offer you a free four-week trial subscription.
